Greener Building
Green, LEED-worthy construction features included:
- Solar panels installed on roof for producing some of electrical needs as well as all the hot water for the house
- Geo-thermal heating and cooling
- Insulation that far exceeds the code minimum
- An energy recovery ventilation unit (ERV) for better indoor air quality
- Hardwood flooring throughout the house made from old barn beams: new trees were not used, and the hardwood surfaces improve air quality compared to carpeting
