The original house was built as a summer cottage in 1917, with three additions tacked on over the years. Despite best efforts in previous renovations, the house remained chopped up structurally and the layout of the rooms was far from optimal. The goal of our renovation was to make sense of these disconnected elements with an entirely new floorplan. Extensive structural work was needed throughout, since we were actually sewing three distinct buildings into a seamless whole.

Our Prairie Style restoration included:

  • Replacing all siding, trim, windows, and doors to match existing elements, as required by the Village Historic Commission;
  • Creating custom interior trim to match the style of the period as well as the final design;
  • Replacing all windows with new insulated wood windows to match the original look;
  • Adding a sensitive expansion to the rear to enlarge the existing small kitchen;
  • Installing all new plumbing, HVAC, and electric;
  • Waterproofing foundation and installing of flood control systems;
  • Designing new landscaping and hardscaping, as well as a new storm sewer to handle water management around the foundations; and
  • Adjusting plant beds which were previously pitching toward the unprotected foundation to deflect water away from the house.
